Macdonald Henderson are delighted to note that Emblation, a client of the firm, has (with its strategic partner Covidien/Medtronic) won the Innovative Collaboration Award (sponsored by IP Pragmatics) at the Scotland’s Life Sciences Dinner.

The dinner and award ceremony which took place at the National Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh, on Thursday 2nd February 2017, celebrates Scotland’s vibrant life sciences sector, and was addressed, inter alia, by Sir Andrew Witty, the CEO of Glaxosmithkline.

Emblation’s technology, in partnership with Covidien/Medtronic (one of the world’s premier medical technology and services companies) enables thousands of patients every month to benefit from cancer treatment where previously, options were severely limited. Covidien agreed to manufacture the full product in Scotland (Emblation’s system and cable in combination with Covidien’s needle).

This collaboration has contributed to over 2000% growth in turnover between 2012 and 2016 for Emblation.

Gary Beale, Emblation’s CEO & Managing Director commented:

“It was a great honour to even be nominated amongst such notable companies, but to win this prestigious award both validates our approach and recognises the dedication of our employees and trusted advisors.

Working with a global player like Covidien has allowed us to bring a pioneering solution to a global patient population. I’m immensely proud of my team – the innovation, commitment and perseverance that was necessary to bring this product to market typifies the strength and skills of the growing Life Sciences Industry in Scotland.”

Macdonald Henderson are proud to have advised Emblation on the terms of its strategic partnership with Covidien, working with Covidien’s Colorado-based team, to deliver an arrangement to the huge benefit of Emblation’s stakeholders, not least the many patients who have and will receive vital treatment courtesy of Emblation’s ground breaking technology.
