Macdonald Henderson are delighted to advise that the head of the firm’s Private Client team, Maureen Matheson has been awarded Houses, Property and Neighbours Lawyer of the Year by Lawyer Monthly at the Women in Law Awards 2017.

The Lawyer Monthly “Women in Law Awards” celebrate and highlight the achievements of women in the legal profession across the globe.

Lawyer Monthly is a news website and monthly legal publication with content that is entirely defined by the significant legal news from around the world. The editorial focus tracks legal news from across key practices areas, jurisdictions and sectors and is one of the very few publications that can boast editorial scope in the both the established and emerging markets.

Maureen’s recognition at this level is a remarkable achievement and we congratulate Maureen on her award.

The award follows a period of sustained growth and development of the firm’s private client offering (covering all aspects of private legal work, such as wills, trusts, conveyancing, estate planning and powers of attorney).

This is underscored by a hat trick of panel appointments (TSB, Bank of Ireland and Aldermore) in the last few months. These appointments effectively complete the firm’s appointment to the panel of all major UK lenders.

In order to meet these increased levels of activity, the firm will be announcing details of a strategic new hire to the private client team in September 2017, we look forward to sharing this news in due course.

Maureen comments:

“I joined the firm almost five years ago and two weeks after the birth of my first child. The firm was hugely supportive at this time allowing flexible working and a high level of autonomy. I quickly progressed to associate level within the firm. This was around the time of the birth of my second child (only 18 months later). Again, the firm offered flexible working and support. Despite maternity leave and the challenges of combining motherhood and work, fee income in our department continued to grow and introducers of work and client base continued to rise and I was proud to be made a Director of the firm and head of department in January this year.

I am keen to show that in a traditionally man’s world, women can compete and succeed without having to compromise on family life or life outside the law. I hope that all firms will increasingly offer the support, encouragement and flexibility necessary to allow all women to progress in their personal lives and in business.

The Private Client Department at Macdonald Henderson has become a highly respected market contender and I look forward to the continued development and growth ahead”.
